Foam Painting
Last week we did foam painting to learn about the primary and secondary colours. We loved feeling the squishy foam and twirling the primary colours together to see what other colours we could make.
We wrote some wonderful recounts about our foam painting experience. We have been working really hard to use lots of descriptive language. We are also using paragraphs to help organise our ideas. We are such wonderful writers! Here are a few of our fantastic foam painting recounts...

Homes Through Time
The Polkadots wrote a comparison comparing the first homes with homes today. They used google drawings to collaborate and share ideas. Here is their compare and contrast map and summary.
We are comparing the first homes with homes today. The first houses were like tents and were easy to take apart. Their houses were not very warm or comfortable. In the first homes there was no electricity and people had to learn to grow crops. Houses now have more windows to let light in. There are more rooms and the houses are bigger. Many people live in cities and we have electricity. We can see that although homes have changed over time there are still some similarities. Both the first homes and homes today give shelter. They both use materials to make them. People still live together in groups and in houses that are close together. We think that houses in the future will become crowded and will be built close together because the world is getting more and more people. We think that houses in the future will have more technology to make the houses more comfortable and user friendly. It will become easier to build houses because there will be lots of new machinery and technology.
We are at extended abstract because we made a prediction.

Views on the News
The Stripes read the reader Views on the News. They decided to evaluate the statement "Sky cars are the answer to all traffic problems." They used google drawings to collaborate and share their ideas coming up with reasons for and against. Here is their thinking map and summary...
We strongly disagree with the statement that sky cars are the answer to traffic problems. Here are the reasons why we think sky cars are a bad idea. If we had sky cars they would scare away the birds and butterflies. Sky cars would create a lot of noise and would fill our air with pollution. Air cars would be very dangerous as they would get in the way of airplanes and helicopters. There would be a lot of crashes because there would be no travel lanes, traffic lights or road rules. Air cars would eventually create the same problems as on the road, as cars would soon begin to fill up the sky. When people look up at the sky all they would see is under cars. Overall we think sky cars aren't the answer to traffic problems because they would still create a lot of traffic problems - just not on the road. We think a better solution would be getting people to use their cars less by walking, riding their bike or taking the bus.
Our evaluation is extended abstract because we generalised.

Globalisation
WALT Define Globalisation.
Have a read of our wonderful ideas about Globalisation...
We are defining Globalisation. Globalisation is being connected to the
world. There are lots of different cultures and languages in the world. We can
travel to other countries by airplane or boat and sometimes even by car.
Globalisation is about experiencing other people’s cultures by speaking their
language, trying their food and practicing their traditions. Here in New
Zealand we buy things from other countries such as food, clothes, toys and
electronics. We can hear about and see what’s happening in the world through
watching the news and reading the newspaper. We can communicate with our family
and friends in other countries by phone, skype, email, text and social media.
Overall we think Globalisation is important because it allows us to keep in
touch with family and friends, it keeps us up to date with what’s happening in
the world and allows us to share and sell things with other countries. If we
didn’t have Globalisation we wouldn’t know what’s happening in other parts of
the world, we wouldn’t be able to communicate with people in other countries
and we wouldn’t have such a variety of clothes, food and toys.
