Planting Sunflowers

Have a read of some of our sunflower recounts!

We have been working really hard to use time words to help sequence our ideas.

We also are beginning to use some great adjectives and smilies!

Deshan

On a cloudy, Friday morning, Room 14 went outside to plant sunflowers. We planted sunflowers because we wanted to see what they look like when they grow. We also planted them to decorate our classroom. We felt excited. Firstly we put soil in the pot. It felt soft like a pillow. It also went in my nails and made them black. I blinked really, really hard because lots of soil came out of the soil bag, like smoke coming out of a fire. Secondly we made holes in the soil for the little, pink seeds. When my group was called up to collect the seeds we went to get them. Finally we put the tiny, little, pink seeds into the soil. When we got back to class Miss Fisher watered the sunflower seeds. I loved the experience because I love watching plants grow.

Angel

On a sunny, Friday morning Room 14 went to plant beautiful sunflowers to see if they will grow. Our funny class went behind the shady tree. Firstly Miss Fisher gave us soil. Secondly we made holes for the pink, bright seeds. After that we covered the seeds with dirt. The seeds felt soft like squishy worms. I heard cicadas in the bush. Once everyone was done we came back to class and Miss Fisher found a sunny spot for the sunflowers. Then we watered them. It was awesome planting the sunflowers because my friends came too.

Bonnie

Last Friday when it was sunny Room 14 went out to plant sunflowers. We planted them because we wanted to make our classroom beautiful. Firstly we took our pots and filled our pots with soil. It felt like lots of sand. Then we used our hands to press some little holes in the dirt. We made the holes very deep. It felt like I was hammering. Next Miss Fisher gave us some seeds. The seeds were little and pink. Then I covered the little, pink seeds with soil. I loved planting our sunflowers because I love decorating our class.

Giselle

On a cloudy Friday morning Room 14 went outside, behind the classroom because we were planting sunflowers to make the class look beautiful. First we filled the pot with soil and it felt rocky, yucky and rough. Secondly we made little holes in the dirt and I felt little pieces of dirt and big pieces. It felt bumpy and I felt tired and happy. Thirdly Miss Fisher gave me some little seeds and I put them in their holes and covered the little seeds with dirt. Finally we went back to Room 14 and we put the pots in a sunny place. We were so excited but I was the happiest because I love sunflowers and I love beautiful flowers.

Our Native Bush Adventure

We have been learning how to write a recount.
Our recount needs to have
- a beginning (who, what, when, where, why)
- a middle (what did we do)
- an end (how did this experience make me feel)

We have been working on using time words to sequence our ideas.

Last week we went on an adventure to explore the native bush.
Have a read of some of our wonderful recounts!
Look at some of the wonderful adjectives and similes that they use...

Bambi
On Tuesday we went to the native bush to explore the bush and so that we could write about it.
Green trees branches scratched my arms as I walked through the trees. I saw a butterfly that looked like a ballerina and I saw a little bird - it was a sparrow. Next I walked down to the spider webs. I thought the spider web felt like a soft pom pom. After that I heard a bird hopping and I felt some prickly pinecones. Next I felt the tree. It felt like an old grandma. I smelt the cool breeze. After that we walked to the swan plants and there were baby caterpillars and chrysalises. Finally we walked back to class.

Deshan
On a windy Tuesday, Room 14 went on an adventure to the prickly, native bush. We did it in the early morning. We explored the huge bush because we wanted to learn about native animals. We looked under leaves to see what insects we could find. But all we found was dull rubbish. I smelt rats and mice poo under leaves. We found pinecones under a real christmas tree. After sometime I went with my friends to the end of the bush to see some creepy spider webs. Then Miss Fisher called us to line up and to take us to some swan plants and chrysalises. I saw little caterpillars and big butterflies. The caterpillars were so small I could hardly see them. I liked our adventure to the native bush because I enjoyed exploring and discovering native insects and animals. I liked the caterpillars because they were stripy like a tiger. I felt good.

Alessandra
Yesterday we went into the native bush because we wanted to explore and write about something new. I felt the soft slippery leaves. I looked in dark places for rats and mice. As I ran around I heard the dead, old leaves crunching under my feet. Lots of children found funny shaped pinecones - they were so loud when they found their pinecones. I saw dirty rubbish like chip packets. After that Miss Fisher took us to the swan plants. We found some silver caterpillars and lifted leaves to find more insects. When we went back to class I saw a beautiful butterfly twinkle and sparkle in the sun, and then as we went along I saw it flutter away. Then we were back into our colourful classroom. I had a great time!

Dhyana
On a windy Tuesday morning room 14 went to the native bush. We went because we wanted to learn about plants and insects. Firstly we tiptoed to the dark, native bush and I heard birds chirping songs out of their beaks. Secondly we went down to find some pinecones. Then I lifted up some leaves to see some insects and rubbish. I liked the native bush because I heard some pretty sounds and the cicadas were humming like a bee. It was amazing and I felt excited.
