Jungle Descriptions

This week we wrote setting descriptions. Miss Fisher gave us a picture of a jungle which we then had to describe. Have a read of some of our incredible descriptions!
Can you spot some examples of adjectives, similes and personification?

Caitlin
In the jungle prickly vines are strangling tall, majestic trees. Beautiful, colourful butterflies are flying gracefully like a ballerina. Gorillas are banging their bulky, dark chests. Trees are talking like humans and creating a green leafy sky. In the dark spoooooky jungle a lion is creeping like a sneaky creepy crawly. Colourful parrots are flying gracefully like a black and white pigeon in the green, leafy sky. I feel mud slithering down my legs like an awful, dreadful snake. The jungle is a really freaky place. Hyper monkeys are calling sweetly, "there is danger around us!" Down in the jungle an elephant is honking his thick skinned trunk like a trombone. Leaves are falling down in showers. The jungle is a wonderful place.

Rudra
In the jungle I see vines swishing through the trees like a bird. Creeping through the bushes is a large gorilla banging his bulky chest. Drifting from the sky are little raindrops dancing like ballerinas. Towering trees are blotting out the sun with a sky of leaves blowing everywhere. On the floor is spongy moss tickling my feet like sand. Fluttering through the woods are swooping bats looking for their food. The wind is plunging fast into the air like a sticky magnet. Monkeys are tugging my hair like an anchor being pulled from a ship. Exquisite leaves are dancing in the rain as they whisper secrets to each other. Birds are chirping sweet songs. Tufting leaves are stacked in piles of ten like a flower pot. The jungle is a majestic place.

Dhyana
In the jungle I see a tangle of vines with monkeys swinging on them. I hear butterflies drifting through the air like graceful ballerinas. I smell the wonderful flowers growing in the grass. I see gorillas banging their bulky, dark brown chests. I hear tigers roaring loudly like a trumpet. I hear leaves crunching and falling down from the high trees. I feel moss under my bare feet.  The moss feels like a soft, furry tail. I hear the gentle breeze drifting through the sky like a baby moth with baby wings. I can taste the cool raindrops on my tongue when it rains. I hear birds chirping a sweet song that drifts through the jungle like a beautiful bubble. The jungle is a magical place.

Ronak
In the jungle I hear tigers roaring loudly. In the jungle butterflies are fluttering freely in the sky. I see trees talking together and whispering secrets. I see slithery snakes twisting up trees like a vine. I smell beautiful flowers. I taste the fresh morning air. I feel the gentle air swooping over my face. I see an evil tiger running to its prey. I feel tree branches swooping over me. I hear the wind blowing past my face and the moss feels like a soft pillow under my feet. I see the bright, blue sky. The jungle is a majestic place. When I close my eyes I feel monkeys tugging my hair and I hear gorillas banging their dark chests.

Bambi
In the jungle I see beautiful butterflies fluttering up in the sky like a little plane. I see gorillas banging their bulky chests like a person playing the drums. I hear the monkeys swinging upside down like a swooping bat. I hear tigers roaring loudly like a zooming car. I smell the gorillas stinky breath and I feel the cold moss under my feet.I taste cool raindrops falling from the twinkling sky. I hear tigers running towards their prey and growling too. I smell fresh flowers every morning. I see vines strangling the trees like a slithery snake. I see the trees making a sky of leaves and sunlight coming in lighting up the jungle. I hear spiders skittering and making their webs. I hear snakes hissing and poking out their tongues. I hear the sweet chatter of monkeys. The jungle is a magical place.

A Visit From a Primotologist

Yesterday we were lucky enough to have Kathryn Ovenden -a primatologist come and speak to us about animals and the environments they live in. A primatologist is a person who studies primates. We loved sharing our knowledge and asking questions about all the different animals and their environments.

Letter From An ANZAC Soldier

Last week we wrote letters as ANZAC soldiers. We had to imagine what it would have been like fighting in the war at Gallipoli and express our thoughts and feelings in a letter written to our family or friends back home in New Zealand. We enjoyed publishing our letters and making them look really old by using teabags to discolour the paper and burning the edges.

Here are a few of our letters...
